Pekingese Grooming Tips: Shedding, Tools, Matting, Clipping

The Pekingese history, can be traced back to early China. Around the early 1900s the breed became popular in other countries in western regions, often proving popular with celebrities and the like.

The Pekingese Temperament

This is a very popular dog breed, not only because of its cute appearance but also because of its temperament.

One could be excused for assuming that little toy dog varieties are also dainty and subdued.

Well the Pekingese breed, while cute and dainty, is a very proud dog that carries itself assuredly and can be quite stubborn in a number of ways. But you can expect most Peningese to be content to sit quietly around the house, preferably on a fluffy pillow.  However, bring out the toys and you will have a very playful, entertaining little dog on your hands.

The somewhat sensitive Pekingese doesn’t take kindly to any kind of rough play so perhaps this breed is not so suitable around very young children. Watch your hands too if you decide that he has had enough to eat and go remove his bowl before he has devoured the whole lot.  (more…)

How to Groom a Goldendoodle: Tips on Grooming a Goldendoodle 2

The Goldendoodle Crossbreed

As the name suggests, this designer breed is the result of crossing a Golden Retriever with a Poodle.

An affectionate dog, the average Goldendoodle is proving to be very popular as a family dog.  You only have to look at the Groodle in the video below to see how placid this breed can be.

This breed heralds back to the early 1990s so i hasn’t been around for a long, long time.

Of interest is the fact that this breed is even being used in certain service capacities, such as therapy dogs and guide dogs.

The Goldendoodle Coat

The amount of shedding that you can expect with this hybrid breed can vary considerably. On the one hand, some seem to shed more than expected but others are, as expected from the Poodle heritage, light shedding. Either way, make sure you have a good pet vacuum on hand, even if it is just for cleaning up after brushing and clipping

Either way, this is a dog breed that should be groomed regularly. Believe it or not,low shedding breeds tend to require more grooming than breeds that shed profusely.

And such a grooming routine would need to include bathing, brushing and clipping. (more…)

Chow Chow Tools for Grooming – Buy a Chow Chow Grooming Kit

As you would imagine, the wonderfully thick double coat of a Chow Chow requires expert attention to keep it healthy and striking.

Because the Chow Chow sheds, you will need a routine to keep the excess hair at bay and a way to vacuum the copious hair that might have escaped your attention.

The American Kennel Club estimates that you will probably need to allocate a couple of hours each week to keep the Chow Chow coat in check. And this time could well be taken up with the task of brushing alone.

And of course like all dogs, the nails need to be clipped on a regular basis. Needless to say, the other routine tasks should be slotted into your routine as well; tasks such as checking ears for wax and cleaning teeth as best you can. (more…)
